1. About These Terms
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the Scala Vocis website, vocal-training tools, user accounts, scale-pattern features, forums, learning resources, and related services available through scalavocis.com, collectively referred to as the “Platform”.
The Platform is operated and administered under the name Scala Vocis. In these Terms, “Scala Vocis”, “the Operator”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to the person or entity responsible for operating and administering the Platform.
By accessing or using the Platform, creating an account, publishing content, or using its interactive tools, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to them, you must not use the Platform.
Our processing of personal data is described separately in the Scala Vocis Privacy Policy.
2. Purpose of the Platform
Scala Vocis provides tools and community resources intended to support singing practice, vocal exercises, scale creation, pitch visualisation, and vocal education.
The Platform is an educational and practice aid. It is not a medical service, diagnostic tool, healthcare service, or substitute for personalised instruction from a qualified vocal coach, singing teacher, speech therapist, physician, or other healthcare professional.
3. Eligibility and Accounts
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
Persons under 16 may use publicly accessible parts of the Platform only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, but they may not create their own account.
When creating an account, you must confirm that you are at least 16 years old and that you agree to these Terms of Use and acknowledge the Privacy Policy.
When creating or using an account, you must:
- provide a valid and usable email address;
- choose a username that does not impersonate another person or organisation;
- keep your login credentials confidential; and
- notify us if you become aware of unauthorised use of your account.
You may use a pseudonym, stage name, or other non-identifying public display name. However, information required for account administration, such as your email address, must be accurate and usable.
You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless that activity resulted from circumstances outside your reasonable control.
4. Permitted Use
Subject to these Terms, Scala Vocis grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable right to access and use the Platform for lawful purposes, including personal vocal practice, education, teaching, and other non-infringing activities.
Unless we expressly authorise it, you may not:
- copy, sell, license, rent, or commercially redistribute the Platform or its source code;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract non-public source code, except where applicable law expressly permits it;
- bypass security measures or access restrictions;
- use automated systems to overload, scrape, disrupt, or misuse the Platform;
- introduce malware, harmful code, or security vulnerabilities;
- falsely represent that you are affiliated with or endorsed by Scala Vocis; or
- use Scala Vocis trademarks, logos, or branding without permission.
You may share scale patterns and links generated through features specifically provided for that purpose.
5. Intellectual Property
The Platform and its original software, source code, algorithms, visual design, layout, branding, logos, graphics, documentation, and original editorial content are owned by Scala Vocis or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Using the Platform does not transfer to you any ownership interest in Scala Vocis, its software, its intellectual property, its business, or any current or future revenue.
These Terms do not prevent you from independently creating singing exercises, note sequences, musical patterns, teaching methods, or other material that does not copy protected elements of the Platform.
Third-party names, trademarks, media, software, and resources remain the property of their respective owners.
6. User Content
“User Content” means material that users submit to the Platform, including forum messages, comments, profile information, scale-pattern descriptions, articles, images, audio, video, links, and other contributions.
You retain any ownership rights that you have in your User Content.
By submitting User Content, you grant Scala Vocis a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, format, technically adapt, and make the content available through the Platform for the purposes of:
- operating and maintaining the Platform;
- displaying your content to the audience you selected;
- providing technical compatibility across devices and formats;
- creating backups;
- moderating the community; and
- promoting or explaining a relevant Scala Vocis feature where your content is already publicly available on the Platform.
This licence does not transfer ownership of your User Content to Scala Vocis.
For ordinary User Content, this licence ends when the content is deleted from the active Platform, except where:
- temporary or residual copies remain in backups;
- retention is legally required;
- the content remains included in messages, quotations, or discussions posted by other users;
- retaining limited records is reasonably necessary for security, dispute resolution, or enforcement of these Terms; or
- you separately agreed that the content would remain permanently available as a curated community resource.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights and permissions to submit your User Content.
7. Curated Learning Resources
Educational articles, guides, interviews, or other materials submitted for the curated Learning Resources section may be treated differently from ordinary forum content.
By submitting an article for publication in the Learning Resources section, you agree that it may remain part of the Scala Vocis community archive after your account is deleted.
Scala Vocis may correct formatting, spelling, broken links, headings, or presentation issues in curated resources. Material changes to the substance of an attributed article should normally be agreed with the author, unless a change is necessary for legal, security, moderation, or technical reasons.
You may request corrections, updates, or anonymisation of your author attribution. Removal may also be requested where continued publication would be unlawful or would seriously affect your legitimate rights.
8. Community Conduct
You must not use the Platform to publish, transmit, or promote content that:
- is unlawful, fraudulent, threatening, or deliberately harmful;
- harasses, abuses, or unlawfully discriminates against another person;
- infringes copyright, privacy, trademark, or other legal rights;
- contains malware, malicious scripts, or deceptive links;
- impersonates another person or misrepresents its source;
- exposes another person’s private information without permission;
- constitutes unsolicited commercial advertising or spam;
- encourages dangerous vocal practices while presenting them as medically safe;
- interferes with the operation or security of the Platform; or
- otherwise seriously undermines the purpose or safety of the Scala Vocis community.
Disagreement, criticism, and discussion are permitted when expressed respectfully.
9. Moderation and Removal of Content
Scala Vocis may review, restrict, move, edit for formatting, hide, or remove User Content where we reasonably believe it:
- violates these Terms;
- violates applicable law;
- infringes another person’s rights;
- creates a security or safety risk;
- contains spam or malicious material;
- is placed in an inappropriate section; or
- is seriously disruptive to the community.
Where reasonably possible, we may inform the affected user of significant moderation action. Advance notice may not be provided where immediate action is necessary for safety, security, legal compliance, or protection of other users.
The fact that content remains available does not mean that Scala Vocis endorses it or has verified its accuracy.

10. Vocal Health and Safety
Singing and vocal exercises involve physical activity. Individual vocal ranges, health conditions, experience levels, and safe limits vary.
You are responsible for selecting suitable exercises, keys, ranges, volume levels, and practice durations.
Stop singing if you experience pain, persistent discomfort, loss of voice, dizziness, breathing difficulty, or unusual vocal fatigue.
Do not rely on automatically generated scales, pitch detection, visual feedback, forum posts, or community advice as a medical assessment or guarantee that a vocal exercise is safe for you.
Seek advice from a qualified vocal professional or healthcare professional where appropriate.
To the extent permitted by law, Scala Vocis is not responsible for vocal strain, injury, or other harm resulting from unsafe practice, failure to respond to physical warning signs, inappropriate settings selected by a user, or reliance on information supplied by other users.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Accuracy and Availability
The Platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
We do not guarantee that:
- pitch detection, timing, note recognition, or visual feedback will always be accurate;
- every feature will operate on every browser, microphone, device, or operating system;
- the Platform will always be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free;
- user-submitted information will be accurate or reliable; or
- stored patterns or other content will never be lost.
You should retain your own copies of important patterns, articles, recordings, or other material.
We may modify, suspend, restrict, replace, or discontinue any part of the Platform. Where a change materially affects registered users, we will try to provide reasonable notice where practicable.
12. Third-Party Services and Links
The Platform may contain links to vocal coaches, videos, courses, websites, embedded media, software libraries, or other third-party services.
Third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy practices. Scala Vocis does not control and is not responsible for their content, availability, security, claims, products, or services.
The inclusion of a third-party resource does not necessarily constitute an endorsement.
13. Privacy and Personal Data
Our collection and use of personal data are explained in the Scala Vocis Privacy Policy.
Depending on the features you use, information processed by or through the Platform may include account details, email communications, technical data, forum activity, submitted content, security information, and other data necessary to operate the Platform.
We may use service providers where reasonably necessary for functions such as website hosting, email delivery, backups, security, analytics, CAPTCHA, embedded content, or technical maintenance.
We may also disclose information where required by law, necessary to protect the Platform or its users, or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
14. Microphone and Audio Processing
Some Scala Vocis features may request permission to access your device’s microphone in order to provide live pitch-detection and visual-feedback functions.
Microphone access requires your express permission through your browser or operating system. You may deny or revoke this permission at any time through your browser or device settings.
Microphone audio used for pitch detection is processed locally within your browser.
Scala Vocis does not record, upload, transmit, or store microphone audio.
Pitch-analysis results are generated temporarily in the browser for the purpose of displaying live visual feedback and are not retained by Scala Vocis after the browser session.
15. Account Suspension and Termination
You may stop using the Platform at any time.
Users may request account deletion by contacting
Scala Vocis may warn, restrict, suspend, or terminate an account where the user:
- materially or repeatedly violates these Terms;
- creates a safety or security risk;
- infringes the rights of others;
- uses the Platform unlawfully;
- attempts to disrupt or misuse the Platform; or
- fails to remedy a violation after receiving a reasonable warning.
Immediate suspension may occur where necessary to prevent harm, protect users, secure the Platform, or comply with law.
Sections that by their nature should continue after termination, including provisions concerning intellectual property, existing licences, disclaimers, liability, and dispute resolution, will remain effective.
16. Account Deletion and Data Retention
When an account is deleted, associated personal data and User Content will be deleted, anonymised, or otherwise handled as described in the Privacy Policy and in Sections 6 and 7 of these Terms.
Deleted information may remain temporarily in routine backups until those backups are overwritten in accordance with the normal backup cycle of Scala Vocis or its hosting provider.
Certain information may also be retained where reasonably necessary:
- to comply with legal obligations;
- to prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents;
- to maintain operational and security records;
- to resolve disputes or enforce agreements; or
- to preserve the understandable context of discussions involving contributions from multiple users.
Where possible, content retained for conversational context may be anonymised or disassociated from the deleted account.
17. Future Paid Features
Scala Vocis may introduce subscriptions, paid features, donations, sponsorships, or advertising in the future.
Any paid feature will be subject to the pricing, payment conditions, cancellation rules, and additional terms presented before purchase.
Ordinary participation as a user, tester, commenter, or voluntary forum contributor does not create an employment relationship, partnership, joint venture, entitlement to compensation, ownership interest, royalty right, profit share, or equity interest in Scala Vocis.
A separate written agreement may establish different rights for commissioned writers, contractors, partners, or other contributors.
18. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Scala Vocis will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special loss arising from use of or inability to use the Platform, including loss of data, loss of opportunity, or reliance on user-submitted information.
Scala Vocis remains responsible for liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded, including liability arising from intentional misconduct or any other responsibility that applicable law makes mandatory.
Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory consumer rights that apply to you.
19. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to compensate Scala Vocis for reasonable losses, liabilities, and expenses arising directly from:
- User Content that you submitted without the necessary rights;
- your unlawful use of the Platform; or
- a serious or intentional violation of these Terms.
This section does not apply to losses caused by Scala Vocis or to liability that may not lawfully be imposed on you.
20. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Platform, legal requirements, security practices, or business operations.
The updated Terms will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
Where a change materially affects registered users’ rights or obligations, we will provide reasonable notice through the Platform or by email where practicable.
Changes will not apply retroactively unless required by law.
Continued use after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not accept a material update, you may stop using the Platform and request deletion of your account.
21. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the substantive laws of Switzerland, excluding its conflict-of-law rules.
Subject to any mandatory consumer-protection provisions that grant a user the right to bring proceedings elsewhere, disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Platform shall be submitted to the competent courts of the City and Canton of Zürich, Switzerland.
Nothing in this section limits any rights or protections that cannot lawfully be waived.
22. Severability and No Waiver
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
The invalid provision will be interpreted or replaced as closely as legally permitted to reflect its intended purpose.
A failure by Scala Vocis to enforce a provision on one occasion does not waive the right to enforce it later.
