This Privacy Policy explains how personal data is collected, used, stored, and otherwise processed when you visit or use the Scala Vocis website, vocal-training tools, user accounts, forums, Learning Resources, and related services available through scalavocis.com, collectively referred to as the “Platform”.
The Platform is operated and administered under the name Scala Vocis. In this Privacy Policy, “Scala Vocis”, “the Operator”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to the person or entity responsible for operating and administering the Platform.

2. General Principles
Scala Vocis aims to collect and process only the personal data reasonably necessary to operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Platform.
Personal data is processed transparently, for specified purposes, and with appropriate regard for data security and user privacy.
We do not sell or rent users’ personal data to advertisers or data brokers.
3. Data Processed When You Visit the Website
When you access the Platform, technical information may be processed automatically by the website, hosting infrastructure, security systems, or integrated services.
This information may include:
- your IP address;
- the date and time of access;
- the requested page or resource;
- the referring website or page;
- browser type and version;
- device type and operating system;
- language and general regional settings;
- technical error information; and
- information required to detect misuse or maintain website security.
This information may be processed to deliver the website, maintain technical stability, diagnose errors, protect the Platform, prevent misuse, and produce general usage statistics.
Scala Vocis does not currently maintain a separate Joomla security-log system. However, the hosting provider and web-server infrastructure may create temporary access, error, security, or operational logs as part of normal website operation.
4. User Accounts
When you create or use a Scala Vocis account, we may process information such as:
- your username;
- your display name, pseudonym, or stage name;
- your email address;
- account registration and verification information;
- account status and preferences;
- password-reset and account-administration records; and
- content and activity associated with your account.
Passwords are not intended to be stored in readable form. They are processed by the account system using the security mechanisms provided by the Platform and its underlying software.
Account data is processed to create and administer accounts, authenticate users, provide account features, communicate essential information, maintain security, and respond to user requests.
You may use a pseudonym, stage name, or other non-identifying public display name. However, the email address used for account administration must be valid and usable.
5. Age Requirement
You must be at least 16 years old to create a Scala Vocis account.
Persons under 16 may use publicly accessible parts of the Platform only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, but they may not create their own account.
Scala Vocis does not intentionally request a user’s complete date of birth merely to verify this age requirement.
6. Forum Posts and Other User Content
When you participate in a forum, submit a comment, publish a scale pattern, complete a public profile, or contribute other material, we process the information you choose to submit.
This may include:
- forum posts and replies;
- comments and discussions;
- public profile information;
- scale-pattern information and descriptions;
- articles, guides, images, audio, video, or links;
- the associated username or display name; and
- publication dates, modification dates, and moderation information.
Content submitted to public areas of the Platform may be visible to other users and visitors. You should not publish private or sensitive personal information that you do not want to make publicly available.
User Content may be processed to provide community features, display contributions, maintain discussions, moderate the Platform, respond to reports, enforce the Terms of Use, and protect users and the Platform.
7. Learning Resources
If you submit an article or guide for publication in the curated Learning Resources section, the submitted content and its agreed author attribution may be published publicly.
By submitting an article for publication in that section, you agree that it may remain part of the Scala Vocis community archive after your account is deleted.
You may request corrections, updates, or anonymisation of your author

8. Contact and Email Communications
When you contact Scala Vocis by email or through a contact form, we may process:
- your name or chosen identifier;
- your email address;
- the content of your message;
- any attachments you send; and
- related correspondence and administrative information.
This information is used to respond to your request, provide support, manage accounts, address reports, and maintain appropriate correspondence records.
Your email address may also be used for account verification, password resets, important security notices, and essential account-related communication.
Scala Vocis does not use account email addresses to send unsolicited commercial spam.
9. Local Browser Storage
Scala Vocis uses local browser storage to remember certain tool settings and recently entered input parameters on your device.
This information is stored locally within your browser so that selected settings can remain available when you return to the tool.
Scala Vocis does not use these locally saved tool parameters for advertising profiles.
You can remove locally stored information by clearing the website data or local storage through your browser settings.
Local browser storage is technically different from traditional browser cookies, although both may store information on a user’s device.
10. Microphone and Audio Processing
Some Scala Vocis features may request permission to access your device’s microphone in order to provide live pitch detection and visual feedback.
Microphone access occurs only after you grant permission through your browser or operating system. You may deny or revoke this permission through your browser or device settings.
Microphone audio used by the Scala Vocis pitch-detection feature is processed locally within your browser.
Scala Vocis does not record, upload, transmit, or store microphone audio.
Pitch-analysis results are generated temporarily within the browser for the purpose of displaying live visual feedback. These results are not retained by Scala Vocis after the browser session.
11. Hosting and Email Provider
Scala Vocis is hosted by cyon in Switzerland. Email services for addresses using the scalavocis.com domain are also provided through cyon.
In connection with hosting, email delivery, security, backups, technical operation, and maintenance, cyon may process technical and communication information on behalf of Scala Vocis.
This may include:
- IP addresses and access information;
- server and error logs;
- website files and database information;
- account and forum data stored by the Platform;
- backup copies; and
- emails sent to or from scalavocis.com addresses.
The exact retention periods for hosting logs and backups are currently being reviewed.
12. Google Analytics
Scala Vocis uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Platform, identify technical or usability issues, and improve website content and features.
Depending on the configuration and the visitor’s consent choices, Google Analytics may process information such as:
- IP-address and approximate-location information;
- browser, operating-system, and device information;
- pages visited and interactions with the Platform;
- visit duration and navigation information;
- referring pages or campaigns; and
- cookies, device identifiers, or similar technologies.
Google Analytics is provided by Google. Information processed through Google services may be processed in countries outside Switzerland, including the United States, in accordance with Google’s applicable data-protection and international-transfer arrangements.
Where required, non-essential analytics technologies should be activated only after the visitor has made the relevant choice through the website’s privacy or consent settings.
The exact Google Analytics configuration and data-retention setting are currently being reviewed and this Privacy Policy may be updated accordingly.
13. Embedded YouTube Content
Scala Vocis may embed videos provided by YouTube.
YouTube is a service provided by Google. When a YouTube video is loaded or played, Google may receive technical and usage information, including:
- your IP address;
- browser and device information;
- the page containing the embedded video;
- video-viewing and interaction information;
- cookies or similar identifiers; and
- information connected to a Google account if you are signed in.
Google may process this information outside Switzerland, including in the United States.
Where technically implemented, YouTube content may initially be displayed as a placeholder and loaded only after the visitor chooses to activate it.
YouTube’s own terms and privacy information apply to its processing of data.
14. CAPTCHA and Form Security
Scala Vocis uses CAPTCHA functionality to protect registration, contact, login, or other forms against automated misuse, spam, and malicious activity.
The CAPTCHA provider may process technical and behavioural information to determine whether an interaction is likely to have been performed by a human.
This information may include:
- your IP address;
- browser and device information;
- date and time information;
- mouse, keyboard, touch, or navigation interactions;
- cookies or similar identifiers; and
- information about the page and form being protected.
If the CAPTCHA service is supplied by Google, the information may be processed by Google outside Switzerland, including in the United States.
The exact CAPTCHA service and configuration are currently being reviewed. This section will be updated if additional information is necessary.
15. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Scala Vocis itself uses local browser storage to remember certain tool settings, as described above.
Third-party services such as Google Analytics, YouTube, and CAPTCHA may use cookies, browser storage, identifiers, scripts, or similar technologies.
These technologies may be used to:
- provide requested website functions;
- protect forms and accounts;
- measure website usage;
- remember privacy choices;
- deliver embedded media; and
- detect misuse or automated activity.
Non-essential analytics and embedded-content technologies may be controlled through the website’s privacy settings where such controls are available.
You can also manage or delete cookies and locally stored website data through your browser settings. Disabling some technologies may prevent certain features from working correctly.
16. Recipients and Service Providers
Personal data may be accessible to or processed by service providers where reasonably necessary to operate the Platform.
These recipients or categories of recipients may include:
- cyon, for hosting, backups, infrastructure, and email services;
- Google, for analytics, YouTube, and CAPTCHA services;
- technical service providers assisting with website maintenance or security;
- professional advisers where necessary to obtain legal or technical advice; and
- public authorities where disclosure is legally required.
Service providers receive only the information reasonably necessary for their respective services and are subject to their own legal, contractual, and data-protection obligations.
17. Processing Outside Switzerland
Scala Vocis website and account data are primarily hosted through cyon in Switzerland.
However, third-party services such as Google Analytics, YouTube, and CAPTCHA may process or make information accessible outside Switzerland, including in the United States and other countries in which their service infrastructure operates.
Such countries may have data-protection laws that differ from Swiss law. Where required, international transfers are based on applicable legal safeguards or recognised transfer mechanisms used by the relevant service provider.
18. Data Retention
Personal data is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to legal obligations, security requirements, technical limitations, and the need to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Retention periods may depend on:
- how long an account remains active;
- whether content remains published;
- the need to maintain understandable forum discussions;
- the nature of a user request or correspondence;
- security and abuse-prevention requirements;
- applicable legal obligations;
- the configuration of third-party services; and
- the normal backup cycle of Scala Vocis or its hosting provider.
Deleted information may remain temporarily in routine backups until those backups are overwritten according to the normal backup cycle.
The precise retention periods for some technical logs, backups, analytics data, and third-party services are currently being reviewed.
19. Account Deletion

Following an account-deletion request, associated personal data and User Content will be deleted, anonymised, or otherwise handled in accordance with the Terms of Use, this Privacy Policy, legal requirements, and technical retention needs.
Some information may remain where reasonably necessary:
- in temporary backup copies;
- to comply with legal obligations;
- to prevent fraud, misuse, or security incidents;
- to resolve disputes or enforce agreements;
- to preserve the context of discussions involving other users; or
- where a Learning Resources contributor agreed that an article could remain in the permanent community archive.
Where possible, content retained for conversational or archival context may be anonymised or disassociated from the deleted account.
20. Data Security
Scala Vocis and its service providers use reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, loss, or destruction.
These measures may include access restrictions, encrypted website connections, password protection, software maintenance, hosting safeguards, and backups.
No internet service or storage system can guarantee absolute security. Users should use a unique password, protect their login information, and notify Scala Vocis if they suspect unauthorised account access.
21. Your Data-Protection Rights
Subject to applicable law and any relevant exceptions, you may have the right to:
- ask whether Scala Vocis processes personal data concerning you;
- request access to your personal data;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data;
- request deletion or anonymisation of personal data;
- object to or request restriction of certain processing;
- withdraw consent where processing depends on consent;
- request delivery or transfer of certain data where applicable; and

The Platform may contain links to vocal coaches, courses, videos, websites, social-media services, or other external resources.
Scala Vocis does not control the privacy practices of external websites. When you follow an external link, the privacy policy and terms of the external provider apply.
23. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect changes to the Platform, service providers, technical configurations, data-processing practices, or legal requirements.
The latest version will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
Where a change materially affects registered users, Scala Vocis will provide reasonable notice through the Platform or by email where practicable.
